JPMorgan launches ‘special forces’ unit to protect clients from political risks
JPMorgan Chase has created a dedicated “Center for Geopolitics” to help its clients navigate rising global political risks. The unit, likened to a “special forces” branch, will advise on geopolitical risk factors such as wars, trade disputes, and political instability. Led by Derek Chollet under Vice Chair Peter Scher, the center taps into high-level expertise from former policymakers. JPMorgan’s CEO Jamie Dimon framed the move against a backdrop of what he called “the most perilous … geopolitical and economic environment” since 1945.
IMF warns of rising odds of 'disorderly' global market correction
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) issues a stark warning that global markets may be on the brink of a “disorderly” correction. According to the IMF, complacency is growing among investors despite rising geopolitical tensions, trade conflicts, and high government deficits.
Asset valuations especially in equities and credit markets are notably strong, but the concern is that any shock could quickly unravel them. The IMF also highlights the interconnected risks between large banks and lightly regulated nonbank financial firms, such as private credit funds and crypto-related players. These links, they argue, could magnify contagion if markets turn. The Fund cautions central banks against easy monetary easing and emphasizes the need for coordinated regulatory action.
